THE BANSHEE

A collaborative project between illustrators. The created work was the "Mememto Monstra" a cursed journal passed between authors throughout history. Meant to document the supernatural as the supernatural itself hunts down whoever the current owner may be. Each illustrator creating both a author for the journal as well as their own unique depiction of a real creature from folklore. My own monster being the Irish death omen, the Banshee. Based of various depictions of the omen, my version of the banshee is a mourning spirit not one that actually causes harm herself. The red in her hair is not a natural tint, instead the colour comes from the dried blood she's cried. Combining her appearance with elements of greek harpies to pay homage to the peacocks brought to Ireland by the english, responsible for the distinctive shriek from which the banshee myth is thought to come from.
